City Continues Heavy Investment in Infrastructure Projects
The City of Fairview was recently awarded $1,250,000 through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Federal Stimulus) to construct the City's next drinking water well (Well #9).  These federal funds are directed through the State of Oregon's Safe Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund.  Fairview has been awarded a $625,000 forgivable loan (grant) and a $625,000 low interest loan (3% interest for 20 years).  Public Works Director Bob
Cochran stated that he feels very fortunate to be selected for this exceptional funding opportunity.  "In May 2009, we were informed that our Water Well #9 project was one of 18 projects selected from the 112 applications received by the state", Cochran said.  The total project is estimated to cost $1.6 million with the balance coming from the City's water funds.  The well, when complete, will add another 1,500 gallons per minute of drinking water to the City's capacity.  Construction of the new well should start this fall with completion by May 2010.  The Well #9 project will add to one of the busiest construction seasons Fairview Public Works has ever experienced.   Numerous construction projects were completed this summer.  These projects included:
  • Sixth Street Stormwater Replacement
  • Third Street Sidewalk Improvements
  • Lincoln Street Sewer Replacement
  • Thompson Street Stormwater Improvements
  • Crestwood Shop Remodel
  • Street Preservation/Slurry Seal Project
With the impending Well #9 construction, the City will have invested over $2.6 million into improving and maintaining the City's infrastructure and buildings in 2009.
